The snow is mostly gone now. It’s bitterly cold but all the plants are uncovered. I saw some rabbit prints before it disappeared. They frequently hop across the path although I typically see them in the grey dawn just on the grass verge. They wait quite awhile to disappear into the underbrush. You can tell by the prints that it was moving (back paws are not together).
The other morning, a rabbit remained almost in the middle of the path. Years ago, I found that if I didn’t look in the direction of the animal, it would often stay where it was. This rabbit waited until I was past, about 2 feet away, before it moved off.
