The Shelter of the River Bank

The ducks have been taking advantage of the shallow water in recent weeks.  I have seen them standing in what would normally have been deep water after a rainstorm upstream.  Today I saw hardly a one until I was on the east side of the river.  The snow was blowing from the west and down in the lee of the river bank were the mallards.  They were staying pretty close, and the wind and snow must have been blowing right past them.

Mallard ducks take shelter near the bank.
