As I came past the pond that is full of mallard ducks, I heard a very strange sound. It sounded more like a chirp than a normal quack. I stood for awhile to see if I could see something other than a mallard but I didn’t see anything. I wonder if there were some out-of-season ducklings amid the rest of the brace.
Suddenly a few of them just started rushing about the water. It happened in four or five places, with some ducks looking like they were fishing, others just racing along. The ducks around these hyperactive ones seemed to take no notice. In the picture, the one duck that is flapping its wings in the air isn’t going anywhere, while the other one made a couple of these rushing moves around the pond.
