The red tibia grasshoppers are all over the field, as are crickets and perhaps another variety of grasshopper. I have heard them and followed a path that goes about 15 feet off the main asphalt path. As I walked along, purposely scuffing the low scrubby weeds, they jumped from their hiding places and flew into the taller goldenrod along the edge. Once settled, they immediately set to singing again. This one was kind enough to climb back up above the throng so that I could see it, although its head is still obscured with a leaf.
